Connect with Gary Vaynerchuk: website & twitter

Gary Vaynerchuk has captured attention with his pioneering, multi-faceted approach to personal branding and business. After primarily utilizing traditional advertising techniques to build his family’s local wine business into a national industry leader, Gary rapidly leveraged social media tools such as Twitter and Facebook to promote Wine Library TV, his video blog about wine. As his viewership swelled to over 80,000 a day, doors opened to a book deal, several national TV appearances, and a flurry of speaking engagements around the world. Gary’s dual identity as both business guru and wine guy has made him the “Social Media Sommelier.” His impact on the wine world has been commemorated via his inclusion in the 2009 Decanter Power List, an index of the 50 most influential figures in the industry.

Recently, Gary was named #18 on Askmen.com’s Top 49 Most Influential Men of 2009.

In addition to the Web 2.0 keynote above, Gary’s remarks on personal branding, social media, and business at FOWA, Strategic Profits, and South By Southwest occasioned praise from established web denizens including Kathy Sierra and earned the admiration of countless bloggers and aspiring entrepreneurs. Check out the Keynotes tab above for more video and check out Gary’s national TV appearances on the left!!

Gary’s landmark seven-figure book deal with Harper Studio was featured in The Wall Street Journal and he was recently profiled by The New York Times and Market Watch. Watch his interview with Business Week for Gary’s advice to entrepreneurs and small businesses.

This week Curtis joined Michael Mazzariello (a.k.a. “Judge Mazz”) from Street Court. Judge Mazz is a long time fan of the Guardian Angels and their work around the world. He along with producer Chris Strand (and two cameramen), were taken to the streets with Curtis and a crew of the Guardian Angels to film and explore The Underbelly Tour, a walking tour of the subways of NYC and the south Bronx. The footage captured will tie in with a future episode of Street Court.

For the upcoming air date follow Street Court on twitter. And of course we'll promote it on Curtis Sliwa dot com. Here are few photos to document the day.

I recently was out to dinner with my wife and friends and the question came up, "why do they call New York the Big Apple?". We all looked around at each other and said, I don't know but we should find out! So I have sent my team (not Goldbrick) to search far and wide for the answer to this question.

Click here to see what we have found.

Please let me know what you think. Is it true what they say? Do you have another idea why?

Zoe's Marathon

Zoe Koplowitz participated in this years NYC Marathon. Zoe didn't finish 1st, 100th or even 10,000th. She didn't event finish in the same day the race started. The most important thing you need to know is Zoe just completed her 21st NYC Marathon. And that she is apart of The Achilles Track Club an organization that encourages those who have disabilities to participate in long-distance races with the general public. Zoe has been diagnosed with Multiple Scleroses but that doesn't hold her back. Not only has she completed the NYC Marathon 21 times, but has also completed the Boston Marathon and the London Marathon twice. Way to go Zoe!

Zoe's first NYC Marathon was in 1988. In 1991 the New York Marathon Committee told her that she no longer could participate in the race due to the length of time it takes her to complete the race (usually around 30 hours) and the dangers of being in certain neighborhoods late at night. That year Zoe decided to reached out to the The Guardian Angels and with their help by agreeing to escort her during the entire race the Marathon committee agreed to let Zoe race. Since 1991 Zoe and the Guardian Angels have raced together side by side.

This past Sunday morning Zoe started at 6 AM, roughly 4 hours before the other 40,000 participants. Zoe finished the race on Monday morning at 11:35 AM, with a time of 29:35. Zoe you are an inspiration to all.

Zoe in our book you finished first!
