Why did you start the Guardian Angels? Rise in crime, officials and police said they couldn't do anymore. Is it true that you had a recycling center in your parents basement? Yes, started at age 14, collected: 5 tons of newspaper, 2.5 tons of cans, 1.5 tons of glass. How many Guardian Angles are there? There are 5,000 around the world. Why the red beret and jacket? The red beret is a boy scouts beret without the patch, it has great visibility and a serious look. Very easy to see with red and white contrast. Are there really members of organized crime after you? Yes, there have been and there will continue to be. What do you do? Sleep as little as possible, broadcast radio, organize the Guardian Angels and provide community relation for both. What's your favorite sport? Curtis has two: Baseball and Stickball. He is the Commissioner of Stickball in NYC, self appointed of course. How many years have you been broadcasting? 18 years, started 1991 at the age of 37. Why? Was given the opportunity to substitute for Bob Grant. Why the logo? Curtis was counting dollar bills backwards when he was a night manager at McDonalds and the eye was always looking out, great for the inside of the shield (strength) wings: protectors, stay above it all, maintain discipline at all times. Why don’t we see the Angels as much in NYC? Things have improved in Manhattan but we do patrol in Harlem and Washington Heights. Family? Son Anthony Chester 5 yo, wife Mary Sliwa 9 years AC: rides the subway of NYC. Favorite food: NYC pizza, specifically Stromboli Pizza, 1st Ave. & St. Marks, East Village. What do people call you? Many names, but Mark Levin calls Curtis the white Mohammed Ali, and the new Jacks have called Curtis the 2Pac of Radio. |
